QMiX CONCRETE
Concrete Mixes & Strengths
At QMiX Concrete, we understand that concrete is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Different construction projects require different concrete mixes and strengths, specifications, and performance characteristics.
That’s why we supply a comprehensive range of BSI-compliant concrete mixes, organised into four main categories:
- Designated Concrete (GEN / FND / PAV)
- Standardised Concrete (ST)
- Designed Structural Concrete (RC)
- Proprietary Concrete
Each category contains specific strength grades designed to suit different construction applications, from groundwork and drainage to reinforced structural concrete.
One of the keys to a successful project lies in choosing the right concrete. Our expertise ensures you get the perfect match for your needs, guaranteeing durability and resilience in every build you undertake with us!
Designated Concrete
Designated concretes are pre-defined mixes developed for specific construction applications such as foundations, paving, drainage, and general building works. These mixes simplify the specification process by ensuring the concrete supplied meets the required performance standards.
All designated concretes supplied by QMix Concrete conform to recognised BS 8500 standards, ensuring consistent strength, durability, and reliability.
General Concrete Mixes (GEN)
General purpose designated concrete mixes are commonly used for non-structural and domestic construction applications where moderate strength is required:
| Mix Type | Typical Strength (28 Days) | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| GEN0 | ~7.5 N/mm² | Blinding layers, drainage surrounds, void filling, kerb bedding |
| GEN1 | ~10 N/mm² | Drainage works, footing steps, kerbing, bedding and groundwork |
| GEN2 | ~15 N/mm² | Patios, pathways, shed bases, fence posts and light foundations |
| GEN3 | ~20 N/mm² | Trench fill foundations, strip foundations, garage bases and caravan/mobile home bases |
Standardised Concrete (ST)
Standardised concrete mixes follow guidelines defined in BS 8500 and are commonly used for non-reinforced construction applications.
| Mix Type | Typical Strength (28 Days) | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| ST1 | ~7.5 N/mm² | Blinding layers, drainage surrounds, void filling, kerb bedding |
| ST2 | ~10 N/mm² | Mass fill, trench fill and foundations for non-structural works |
| ST3 | ~15 N/mm² | Foundations for small buildings, slabs and groundwork |
| ST4 | ~20 N/mm² | Structural foundations, reinforced bases and slabs |
| ST5 | ~25 N/mm² | Heavy-duty foundations and structural concrete |
RC designated concretes are specifically crafted for reinforced, pre-stressed, or steel-containing concrete projects. With clear specifications including maximum water-to-cement ratio (W/C) and minimum cement content (MCC), these mixes streamline and fulfil concrete specifications.
Foundation Concrete (FND)
FND mixes are foundation concretes designed for use where ground conditions may contain sulphates or aggressive chemicals.
| Mix Type | Chemical Class | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| FND2 | High sulphate resistance | Mass fill, trench fill and foundations for non-structural works - DC Class 2 |
| FND3 | Higher sulphate resistance | Foundations for small buildings, slabs and groundwork - DC Class 3 |
| FND4 | Maximum sulphate resistance | Highly aggressive ground conditions - DC-Class 4 |
Paving Concrete (PAV)
PAV mixes are designed for external paving applications where concrete is exposed to weather and freeze-thaw conditions.
Reinforced Concrete (RC)
Reinforced concrete mixes are used for structural applications where steel reinforcement is present. These mixes follow defined specifications including water-cement ratio limits and minimum cement content.
| Mix Type | Strength Class | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| RC25 | C20/25 | Domestic reinforced slabs and light structural work |
| RC30 | C25/30 | Structural slabs, reinforced foundations and beams |
| RC35 | C28/35 | Commercial slabs and reinforced bases |
| RC37 | C30/37 | Structural elements requiring higher load capacity |
| RC40 | C32/40 | Structural beams, columns and industrial slabs |
| RC45 | C35/45 | Heavy structural applications |
| RC50 | C40/50 | Civil engineering structures and large developments |
| RC40/50XF | C40/50 XF | External structural concrete exposed to freeze-thaw environments |
Proprietary Concrete
Proprietary concrete mixes are developed to deliver specific performance characteristics beyond standard classifications.
QMix Concrete supplies a range of proprietary concrete solutions designed for specialist construction requirements.
QMiX Concrete offer a wide range of custom-made mixes designed to meet specific needs, ensuring top-tier performance for a broad range of application.
